Project Files

Overview

SnapTrim project files (.snaptrim) let you save your editing session and return to it later. This is useful when you want to:

  • Resume later — Save your work and continue editing another time
  • Share projects — Move projects between machines
  • Keep files organised — Store project files alongside your videos

What’s Saved in a Project

A project file stores all your editing settings:

  • Video reference — Both absolute and relative paths to your video file
  • Trim settings — Start and end points, and whether trimming is applied
  • Crop settings — Crop region, aspect ratio, and whether cropping is applied
  • Redactions — All redaction regions, including their types, time ranges, and keyframes
  • Metadata — Creation date, last modified date, and SnapTrim version

Creating a Project

To save your current session as a project file:

  1. Open the File menu
  2. Select Save (or press Ctrl+S)
  3. Choose a location and filename
  4. The file is saved with the .snaptrim extension

Use Save As (Ctrl+Shift+S) to save a copy with a different name or location.

Opening a Project

There are several ways to open a project file:

  • From SnapTrim — Use File > Open Project (or press Ctrl+Shift+O)
  • From File Explorer — Double-click any .snaptrim file
  • Recent projects — Use File > Recent to quickly access your recent work
  • Command line — Run SnapTrim.exe project.snaptrim

Tips

  • Keep files together — Store project files in the same folder as your videos for maximum portability
  • Use meaningful names — Name your project files clearly so you can find them later
  • Watch for unsaved changes — An asterisk (*) in the title bar indicates unsaved changes
